overcome PCOS and insulin resistance?

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) affects 1 in 10 women who are of childbearing age. The cause of PCOS is not really known, but has come to be the most common cause for female infertility and has been known to occur in girls as young as 11 years old. PCOS is a woman's health problem that can affect:

o Ability to bear children
o Menstrual cycle
o Hormones
o Heart
o Blood vessels

And typically women with PCOS may experience the following symptoms:

o High Cholesterol
o High Blood pressure
o Pelvic Pain
o Sleep Apnea
o High levels of androgens
o Acne
o Missed and/or irregular periods
o Small cysts in the ovaries

As I mentioned above the cause of PCOS is not really known but it is believed that a number of factors play a major role in the development of this syndrome. One thought is that it may be genetic because more often than not a woman who experiences PCOS also has another close female relative like a mother or a sister who suffers with PCOS. Another possible factor is insulin. Too much insulin causes the body to increase its production of androgen. When there is an excessive amount of androgen levels it can lead to acne, weight gain and problems with ovulation.

What are the treatments for women who suffer with PCOS? One of the most common is birth control pills because is helps to control your menstrual cycle and reduces androgen levels. However, this treatment is not best one if you are wanting to get pregnant. Hence, there are the fertility treatments for those wanting to get pregnant because this treatment will stimulate ovulation.

Another option is surgery. For this procedure a laparoscopy is done, which is when a small incision is made near the navel area and inserts a telescope type tool. Then, a small puncture is made on the ovary with a needle which emits an electrical current which destroys a portion of the ovary. This procedure thus lowers the androgen levels and helps with ovulation.

The final option that will be discussed here is the natural treatment. This is by far the best and most holistic. Here are some suggestions:

1. Eating healthy - fruits, vegetables, lean meats and whole-grain foods
2. Maintain a healthy weight - as little as a 10 percent weight loss can help restore your cycle
3. Exercise - as little as 30 minutes a day will help improve your lifestyle

There are now some amazing natural ovarian cyst and PCOS treatments available today that will give you an alternative to conventional medicine and help you avoid painful surgery.
